Haim Kiewe

Haim Kiewe

(b. October 8, 1912, Dlottowen – d. May 12, 1983, Israel)

Haim Kiewe created a rich, full, diverse, multi-layered body of work in his lifetime, which deserved a more central place in the art field. Perhaps precisely because of the nature of his body of work, it was difficult to "brand" it, to give him a title, to put him in a slot. Therfore he was flexible and lively while others petrified and stuck to the canon

Kiva was born in 1912 in the Prussian village of Dolotoven in Germany, to a traditional family. In the early forties of the 20th century he began painting as an autodidact. During his long career he was active in the "New Horizons" group, was exposed to French modernism, and was influenced by the "informal" style. After that, gradually, his works became more abstract. In the 60s of the last century, he was influenced by American abstract art. His work turned to geometric and architectural elements. He seems to be trying to break through the two dimentions. And starting from the 70s decorative elements and markers of pop art were seen in his work.
